Understanding Dentures
What Are Dentures — And What Are Good Dentures?
Definition
Dentures are removable prosthetic teeth that replace missing natural teeth and rest on the gums. They restore chewing, speech, and facial support. Partial dentures replace some teeth; complete dentures replace all teeth on one or both jaws.
They are not fixed to bone — that is what dental implants do. A well-made denture restores appearance, chewing, and confidence. A poorly made one does none of these reliably.
We Judge a Denture by Six Parameters
- Retention — does it stay in place?
- Stability — does it rock or shift?
- Support — is it properly resting on the gum?
- Speech — can you speak normally?
- Esthetics — does it look like real teeth?
- Hygiene — can it be kept clean over time?
A denture that fails even one of these is poorly made — however good it looks from the outside.
Did you know?
The word “prosthodontist” literally means a specialist in prosthetic teeth. At Center for Dental Implants & Esthetics, dentures are supervised by an MDS Prosthodontist — not a general dentist. This distinction matters enormously for complex cases and for getting a denture that actually fits.
Is This for You?
When Do You Actually Need a Denture?
Missing teeth are not just cosmetic. Bone underneath starts shrinking within months of tooth loss. Adjacent teeth tilt inward. Your face changes shape. Even a partial denture prevents all of this.
You may need a partial denture if:
- You have two or more missing teeth in a row
- Multiple missing teeth are scattered across your jaw
- Remaining teeth are slowly shifting into gaps
- You avoid chewing on one side because of missing back teeth
- You want a teeth replacement but are not ready for implants yet
You may need a complete denture if:
- All or most teeth on one or both jaws are missing
- Remaining teeth are very loose and need removal
- Dental implants are not medically suitable or affordable right now
- You are planning to transition to implants and need a temporary solution
After a tooth is removed, the jaw bone can lose up to 60% of its width within 3 years (Jahangiri et al., JOMS 2012). A denture keeps soft tissue supported and prevents the sunken face appearance that follows bone loss.
Dentures are a permanent, dignified solution — not a stopgap. The right type, fitted by a specialist, lasts years and preserves your facial structure.
We give you an honest comparison: dentures, implant-supported dentures, implants, or bridges — based on your actual bone levels and budget.
Clinical Observation
Many patients at our Sector 51 and Sector 74 centres have waited 2–3 years after tooth loss before seeking help. By that point, bone width has reduced significantly — limiting implant options and affecting denture stability. Earlier intervention always gives you more choices.

17+ Years Dedicated Denture Experience
Your Specialist
A prosthodontist is a dental specialist with three additional years of postgraduate training specifically in prosthetic dentistry — dentures, crowns, bridges, dental implants, and full-mouth reconstruction. It is the highest qualification for denture work in dentistry. Dr. Jyoti completed her MDS from Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences (MAIDS), New Delhi and has practised exclusively in this field for over 17 years.
In her experience, the most common reason patients arrive with failing old dentures is one thing: they were not made by a specialist. Framework design, occlusal recording, and the wax try-in stage require trained hands. When those steps are rushed, the denture never fits — no matter how good the materials are.
“A denture that moves while eating is not a denture — it is a problem. Good fit starts with a proper clinical assessment, custom impression trays, and correct jaw relationship recording. In my 17 years, every unhappy denture patient had a problem that began at one of these three steps.”— Dr. Jyoti Singh, MDS Prosthodontist · Center for Dental Implants & Esthetics

Where Your Denture is Made
Dentcare Dental Lab — One of the Finest in India
The laboratory where your denture is fabricated matters as much as the clinical steps. We work with Dentcare Dental Lab, Kerala — one of India’s most technically advanced dental laboratories, equipped with precision equipment and certified technicians.
For BPS dentures specifically, the lab must hold Ivoclar Vivadent’s BPS certification. Dentcare holds this certification — which is why we are one of very few centres in Gurgaon that can offer genuine, certified BPS dentures.
“Most clinics send to local labs with basic equipment. We use a lab that is US FDA approved, BPS certified, and holds ISO quality certification. The same denture design made in a better lab produces a measurably better result — in fit, in material integrity, and in longevity.”

Patient Experiences
What Our Patients Say
From patients across Gurgaon — Sector 51, Sector 74, Dwarka Expressway, and beyond.
I had tried dentures from two clinics near Dwarka Expressway before coming here. Both were uncomfortable within weeks. The BPS denture I got from Dr. Jyoti’s team has been perfect for over two years. The wax try-in made all the difference — I could actually see and approve the look before anything was finalised.
My mother needed a complete lower denture. We came from South City 1 after reading about the BPS system online. The team explained every step clearly. Three years later, the denture still fits well. We come for the yearly review and they check everything thoroughly. Very honest and transparent practice.
Why Come to Us
What Makes Our Denture Work Different
Most general clinics treat dentures as a commodity. We are a specialist prosthodontic centre. Here is what that means for you, practically.
Prosthodontist-Led
Your dentures are supervised by an MDS Prosthodontist with 17+ years of experience — the highest-qualified specialist for this work. Not a junior dentist, not a general practitioner.
In-House Critical Steps
Framework design and teeth setting are done in-house under direct specialist supervision. Only final fabrication goes to the best dental laboratory in India. This quality control is rare in Gurgaon.
Full Spectrum of Options
From metal clasp partials to BPS and PEEK — we offer every type. We match the denture to your clinical needs, not to what one clinic happens to stock.
Honest Implant Advice
If implants or implant-supported dentures are a better long-term option for you, we will tell you directly. We plan from the beginning for any future upgrade if relevant.
Transparent Pricing
All prices are on this page and given in writing at consultation. No hidden add-ons. No cost surprises midway through treatment. Standard practice at CDIE since 2016.
Long-Term Support
Dentures need relining as your jaw changes. We provide regular reviews, relines, and repairs — so your denture continues fitting well years after delivery, not just on day one.
From Our Practice
Patients who come to us from Golf Course Extension Road, South City 1, and Nirvana Country often mention they tried dentures elsewhere first and ended up with something uncomfortable. In almost every case, the problem traces back to skipping the functional impression or jaw recording step — both of which require specialist training. The materials were identical. The technique was not.

How Your Denture is Made — The Full Process
A well-made denture takes multiple visits and precise lab work. Shortcuts at any step directly affect how the denture fits and feels.
- Gum health, bite, and jaw bone levels examined
- All suitable denture options reviewed and compared
- Written treatment plan with transparent pricing provided before you commit
- Study models taken to create custom impression trays
- Custom trays are more accurate than stock trays most clinics use
- This step determines the quality of everything that follows
- Second, detailed impression using the custom tray
- For BPS: captures how the jaw actually moves, not just how it sits at rest
- This is what gives BPS dentures their superior fit
- Records correct vertical height where upper and lower jaws meet
- Determines how teeth will contact when you bite
- Errors here cause jaw pain, headaches, and a denture that never feels right
- Wax mock-up of the denture tried in before permanent fabrication
- Appearance, bite height, speech, and comfort all assessed
- Changes are easy at this stage — impossible after final fabrication
- Finished denture fitted and adjusted chairside
- Reviews at 48 hours, 1 week, and 1 month included — not extras
- Gum changes in early weeks are managed at these follow-up visits
Expert Insight
The jaw relationship recording visit is the one patients underestimate most. It looks simple — but recording the correct vertical dimension of occlusion takes years of practice to do reliably. Get it wrong and the patient has a denture that causes chronic jaw fatigue, headaches, or speech problems. This is the step that most separates a prosthodontist from a general dentist.

Care Instructions
How to Make Your Dentures Last
- Remove, rinse, and brush with a soft denture brush daily — never regular toothpaste, it scratches the surface
- Soak overnight in water or denture solution — never leave them to dry out, never use hot water
- Brush your gums and remaining teeth before reinserting every morning
- Come for a review every 12 months even if the denture feels fine — visit immediately if it becomes loose or causes a sore

Patient Questions Answered
Frequently Asked Questions About Dentures
Real questions from patients in Gurgaon — answered directly by our prosthodontic team.
A standard acrylic partial denture takes approximately 10–14 working days across 3–4 visits. A BPS complete denture takes 3–5 weeks and 5–6 clinical visits because of the detailed functional impression and jaw recording protocol. Rushing this process compromises fit — we do not offer “same-day” complete dentures because the clinical science simply does not support it.
A prosthodontist has three additional years of postgraduate training specifically in prosthetic dentistry — dentures, crowns, bridges, implant restorations, and full-mouth reconstruction. A general dentist can make basic dentures, but complex cases, unusual bite patterns, and significant bone loss are far better served by a specialist who has spent a career focused solely on this area. The MDS Prosthodontist qualification is the highest standard the dental profession recognises for this work.
A regular complete denture uses a static impression and standard lab process. A BPS denture uses the Ivoclar Vivadent Biofunctional Prosthetic System — capturing functional jaw movements, using IvoBase injection moulding to eliminate material shrinkage, and using characterised teeth and gum base individualised for your face. Studies show BPS dentures restore up to 50% of natural bite force compared to approximately 30% with standard dentures (Zarb & Hobkirk, Eur J Prosthodont Restor Dent, 2017, clinical outcomes review). The result is a measurably better fit, appearance, and chewing efficiency.
The process of taking impressions and recording your bite is not painful. If teeth need to be extracted before a denture is made (an immediate denture), there is normal healing soreness from the extractions. Newly delivered dentures can cause minor pressure sores in the first 1–2 weeks as your gum adjusts — these are managed at follow-up appointments with small adjustments. A well-made denture should not cause pain during normal use after the settling period.
Yes — in many cases, a reline (resurfacing the fitting surface with fresh material to match your current gum shape) can restore a comfortable fit for another few years. We also repair cracked bases and broken teeth. However, if the denture is more than 10 years old, has excessively worn teeth, or has been relined multiple times, replacement is usually the more practical option. We assess your existing denture at consultation and give you an honest recommendation — we do not automatically suggest replacement when repair is the right answer.
PEEK (Polyetheretherketone) is a medical polymer used in orthopaedic and spinal implants. As a denture framework it eliminates metal entirely — no metallic taste, no temperature sensitivity, no visible clasps. It is CAD/CAM milled for a more accurate fit than cast metal frameworks. For patients with metal sensitivity, esthetic concerns, or who simply prefer no metal in their mouth, PEEK is worth the higher cost. For patients who are primarily cost-focused with no metal concerns, a cast partial remains the better value choice.
Your jaw bone continues changing shape after tooth loss — this is called bone resorption and it is normal biology. As the gum ridge changes, even a well-made denture becomes looser over time. A reline is typically needed every 2–3 years to refit the inside surface. Complete replacement is usually needed every 7–12 years depending on the type and daily care. BPS dentures, due to their precise initial fit and durable materials, tend to last toward the longer end of this range.
Neither is universally better — it depends on your bone levels, health, and budget. Implants are fixed, stimulate bone, and last 15–25+ years. Dentures require no surgery, are faster to complete, and cost less upfront. For many patients, implant-supported dentures (clipping onto 2–4 implants) are the best middle-ground — near-fixed stability at a fraction of full implant cost. We give you an honest comparison at consultation based on your actual bone levels. See also: Dental Implants vs Dentures and Denture on Implant.
New dentures temporarily affect sounds like ‘s’, ‘f’, and ‘v’ because your tongue and lips need to adjust to the changed shape in your mouth. Most patients adapt fully within 2–4 weeks. A well-designed denture with correct tooth positioning minimises this adjustment period. BPS dentures tend to have a shorter speech adaptation period because of their precise jaw relationship recording. Practising reading aloud helps significantly during the first 2 weeks.
Yes — and with a well-made denture, the change is positive. Missing teeth lead to bone loss, which causes the cheeks and lips to look sunken, the lower face to shorten, and wrinkles around the mouth to deepen. A well-made denture with the correct tooth height (vertical dimension of occlusion) restores facial support and can visibly take years off appearance. This is why the wax try-in step is so important — it allows you to see and approve how your face looks with your new teeth before any permanent work is done.
