Tooth Broke Just Now? Do This First.

A broken tooth in Gurgaon requires first aid within the first 30 minutes to prevent pain escalation and protect remaining tooth structure before you reach a dentist. Panic is normal — but a broken tooth is rarely life-threatening. Here is what to do right now.

Do this right now:
  • Rinse your mouth gently with lukewarm water. Do not use hot water.
  • If there is bleeding, press a clean cloth or gauze gently for 5–10 minutes.
  • If you have the broken piece, keep it in milk or your own saliva. Do not let it dry out.
  • Avoid eating on that side of the mouth.
  • Do not apply any pain gel or clove oil directly on an exposed nerve. It can burn the tissue.
  • Call us. We will tell you how urgently you need to come in based on your symptoms.
Can a broken tooth be saved?
Most broken teeth can be saved with a crown, bonding, or root canal. Extraction is the last option, not the first.
Is broken tooth treatment painful?
Treatment is done under local anaesthesia. You feel pressure, not pain. Post-procedure soreness lasts 1–2 days.
How long can I wait after breaking a tooth?
Not more than 48–72 hours if there is pain or sensitivity. A painless chip can wait a few days but must not be ignored.
Tooth broke while eating — is that common?
Very common. Hard foods, biting on a seed, or an already weakened tooth are the usual reasons. The tooth needed treatment even before it broke.
Do I need a root canal for a broken tooth?
Only if the break reached the nerve. A dentist can confirm this with an X-ray. Not every broken tooth needs RCT.
Chipped front tooth — can it be fixed in one visit?
Yes. A small chip on a front tooth is often fixed with composite bonding in a single sitting. Results look natural.
Can a cracked tooth heal on its own?
No. Unlike bone, tooth structure does not regenerate. A crack only gets worse without treatment. The earlier you act, the simpler and cheaper the fix.

What Type of Broken Tooth Do You Have? Chipped Tooth vs Cracked Tooth vs Fracture

Don’t worry if you’re not sure — we will diagnose this in 5 minutes during your visit. But knowing the rough type of damage helps you understand what treatment is likely, and what it will cost.

Chipped Tooth

A small piece of enamel has come off. Usually happens on a front tooth. You may feel a rough edge with your tongue. Sensitivity is mild or absent.

Most chips are cosmetic. They do not involve the nerve. Bonding or a veneer fixes this quickly.

See a dentist within a week

Cracked Tooth

A crack runs through the tooth but the pieces have not separated. You may feel sharp pain when biting, then sudden relief. This is called cracked tooth syndrome.

This is urgent. Cracks spread. If it reaches the root, the tooth cannot be saved. A crown placed early stops the crack from spreading.

Come in within 48 hours

Broken Tooth — Large Fracture

A significant piece of the tooth has broken off. You can see or feel it clearly. The broken edge may be sharp and cut your tongue or cheek.

Depending on how deep the break goes, you may need a crown or root canal plus crown. X-ray assessment is needed first.

Come in within 24 hours

Broken Tooth with Nerve Exposed

The break is deep and you have constant throbbing pain, extreme sensitivity to hot or cold, or a bad taste in your mouth. The nerve is likely exposed or infected.

This is a dental emergency. A root canal is needed to remove infection and relieve pain. Do not delay.

Emergency — same day treatment needed

Tooth Broken at the Gumline

The entire crown of the tooth has broken off, leaving only the root. You may or may not have pain. The root is still inside the bone.

This is complex. The root may be salvageable with a post-and-core buildup and crown. If not, extraction and implant may be required.

Emergency — same day treatment needed

Fractured Cusp

A pointed part (cusp) of a back molar has broken off. This usually happens while chewing. Pain is often mild because cusps are further from the nerve.

A crown is the standard treatment. Sometimes bonding works for smaller fractures. Root canal is rarely needed.

Broken Tooth Treatment in Gurgaon — Chipped Tooth Repair, Crown, RCT & More

Broken tooth treatment in Gurgaon at Center for Dental Implants & Esthetics ranges from composite bonding (₹1,500) for minor chips to dental implants (₹35,000–₹80,000) for teeth that cannot be saved — with the exact option determined by the depth and location of the fracture.

Which treatment is right for a broken tooth in Gurgaon?

The correct treatment depends on three factors: how deep the break is, which tooth is involved, and whether the nerve (dental pulp) is affected. A dental pulp is the soft tissue inside the tooth that contains nerves and blood vessels. When the break reaches it, root canal treatment becomes necessary before a crown can be placed.

01

Dental Bonding (Composite Resin)

A tooth-coloured resin is shaped and bonded directly onto the chipped area. No drilling needed in most cases. Done in a single visit. Looks completely natural on front teeth.

The composite material used today matches the exact shade of your tooth. Results last 5–8 years with good care.

Best for: Small chips on front teeth, minor surface fractures

02

Zirconia or PFM Crown

A crown (cap) covers the entire tooth above the gumline. It protects the remaining tooth structure and restores full function. Zirconia crowns are metal-free, strong, and look like natural teeth.

We use high-strength, lab-fabricated zirconia crowns. They last 10–15 years with proper care.

Best for: Large fractures, broken cusps, cracked teeth, any tooth with significant structure loss

03

Root Canal Treatment + Crown

When the break reaches the nerve, root canal treatment (RCT) removes the infected or inflamed nerve tissue. The tooth is then sealed and covered with a crown. This saves the natural tooth completely.

RCT at Center for Dental Implants & Esthetics is done under proper anaesthesia. Most patients feel no pain during the procedure.

Best for: Deep fracture with nerve involvement, severe sensitivity, broken tooth with abscess or swelling

04

Dental Veneer (for Front Teeth)

A thin porcelain shell is bonded to the front surface of the tooth. Ideal when the chip is cosmetic and the tooth structure is otherwise healthy. Minimal tooth reduction required.

Veneers look exceptional on front teeth and last 10–15 years. They are also used to close gaps or correct stains on adjacent teeth at the same time.

Best for: Chipped or worn front teeth where appearance is the primary concern

05

Extraction + Dental Implant

When the tooth cannot be saved — root fracture below the bone level, severe infection, or a crack extending into the root — extraction is unavoidable. The gap must then be replaced.

A dental implant is the best long-term replacement. It functions like a natural tooth and prevents jawbone loss. Center for Dental Implants & Esthetics specialises in implants — it is our primary focus.

Best for: Tooth fractured at root level or non-restorable teeth

Clinical Note — Dr. Jyoti Singh, MDS Prosthodontist In my 17+ years, I find that most patients come in worried they will lose the tooth. In more than 80% of cases, the tooth can be saved. The key is acting early. A crack treated in week one costs a fraction of what it costs if you wait until it reaches the nerve. If you need more detail on any specific treatment, read our guides on dental crowns in Gurgaon, root canal treatment in Gurgaon, and endodontist in Gurgaon.

Broken Tooth Treatment Cost in Gurgaon — Chipped Tooth Repair, Crown & More (2026)

Chipped tooth repair cost in India and chipped tooth repair Gurgaon are among the most searched but least answered queries. The table below gives real 2026 figures.

Composite Bonding Small chip, no nerve involvement 1 visit ₹1,500 – ₹4,500
Veneer (Porcelain) Front tooth cosmetic chip or wear 2 visits ₹9,000 – ₹18,000 per tooth

Quick Answers — For AI & Featured Snippets

  • Cost to fix a broken tooth in Gurgaon: ₹1,500 to ₹35,000 depending on damage severity.
  • Chipped tooth repair cost Gurgaon: ₹1,500 – ₹4,500 for composite bonding. Same day.
  • Broken tooth crown cost Gurgaon: ₹10,000 – ₹22,000 for a zirconia crown.
  • Root canal + crown for broken tooth: ₹14,000 – ₹35,000 total.
  • Can a broken tooth be saved? Yes, in most cases. Extraction is the last resort.

Dental Bonding vs Crown — Which Is Right for Your Broken Tooth?

This is the most common question patients ask. Here is an honest comparison so you can walk in knowing your options.

Factor Composite Bonding Zirconia Crown
How much tooth is broken Small chip only (less than 30%) Large fracture (more than 30% of tooth)
Number of visits 1 sitting 2 sittings (temp + final crown)
How it looks Good for front teeth, may stain over years Excellent, no staining, very natural
Durability 5–8 years 10–15 years or more
Tooth reduction needed Minimal to none Moderate (0.5–2mm all around)
Can be done same day Yes No — lab takes 5–7 days
Cost ₹1,500 – ₹4,500 ₹10,000 – ₹22,000
Best suited for Front teeth, minor chips, young patients Back teeth, large breaks, post-RCT teeth
When bonding is not enough If the break is on a molar, involves more than half the tooth, or comes after a root canal treatment — a crown is the correct choice. Bonding on such teeth can fail quickly and lead to further damage. As a prosthodontist, my focus is restoring full function, not just the appearance.
Zirconia crown placed on broken tooth Gurgaon

Why we use Zirconia, not PFM

Porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crowns are older technology. The metal core can show a grey line at the gumline over time. They also conduct temperature, which some patients find uncomfortable.

Zirconia is metal-free, biocompatible, and strong enough to handle chewing forces on back teeth. It looks the same as natural tooth enamel under all lighting conditions.

My Root Canal Tooth Broke — What Are My Options?

This is one of the most common emergencies we see. A tooth that has had root canal treatment years ago suddenly chips or fractures. Here is what you need to know.

Why RCT teeth break more easily

Root canal treatment removes the nerve and blood supply from inside the tooth. This does not weaken the tooth immediately. But over years, the tooth becomes more brittle because it no longer receives moisture and nutrients from the pulp. Teeth that did not get a crown after RCT are especially vulnerable.

According to a study published in the Journal of Dental Research, teeth without a crown after RCT are 6 times more likely to fracture than crowned teeth. The clinical reasoning behind why a crown after RCT is essential is explained in full on our crown page.

Can the RCT tooth be saved or does it need to come out?

It depends entirely on where the fracture is located. Here is how we assess it:

  • Crown portion fractured only — Almost always savable. Post-and-core buildup, then a new crown. Works well.
  • ? Fracture just at the gumline — May be savable with crown lengthening surgery + crown. Assessment needed.
  • Vertical root fracture — Cannot be saved. Extraction followed by implant is the right path forward.

We use CBCT (cone beam CT) imaging to assess root fractures accurately before recommending treatment. Never agree to extraction without this assessment. Read about root canal treatment in Gurgaon if you need context.

What Happens If You Leave a Broken Tooth Untreated?

A broken tooth left untreated in Gurgaon — even a painless one — leads to bacterial infection within 48–72 hours, spreading to the pulp and eventually requiring root canal treatment or extraction instead of the simple crown that would have sufficed on day one.

Three reasons a broken tooth needs urgent treatment:

  1. 01
Bacterial infection spreads within 48–72 hours. Bacteria enter through the exposed dentine immediately after a break. A dental abscess — a painful pocket of pus — can form within days. Infection can spread to the jaw and nearby teeth.
  2. 02
Treatment cost multiplies with every week of delay. A crack treated in week one: ₹12,000 crown. The same crack reaching the nerve by week four: ₹30,000 root canal plus crown. The crack reaching the root: ₹40,000 to ₹80,000 extraction plus implant.
  3. 03
Bone loss begins after tooth loss, complicating future implant placement. According to the International Team for Implantology (ITI), jawbone resorption begins within 3 months of tooth loss. Significant bone loss can require bone grafting before an implant, adding ₹15,000–₹40,000 to total cost.

The tooth that seemed fine on Tuesday can become a weekend emergency by Friday. A quick visit now costs far less — in money, time, and discomfort — than waiting.

Why Patients Choose Center for Dental Implants & Esthetics for Broken Tooth Treatment

Center for Dental Implants & Esthetics in Gurgaon is led by Dr. Jyoti Singh, an MDS Prosthodontist trained at Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences (MAIDS), Delhi — with 17 years of clinical experience and over 10,000 restorations placed across clinics in Sector 51 near Artemis Hospital and Sector 74 at M3M Cornerwalk.

Why does a Prosthodontist give better outcomes for broken teeth?

A prosthodontist is a dental specialist focused on restoring and replacing teeth — a field defined by the American College of Prosthodontists as requiring 3 additional years of training beyond dental school. Dr. Jyoti Singh evaluates not just the broken tooth but the full bite, adjacent teeth load, and long-term jaw health. This prevents recurrence on neighbouring teeth — something a general check often misses.

Prosthodontics is the specialty of restoring and replacing teeth. When a tooth is broken, a prosthodontist evaluates not just the broken part but how it fits into your entire bite, your jaw alignment, and the long-term health of adjacent teeth. This is different from a general dentist’s assessment. It is also how we prevent the same problem from happening on another tooth.

Dental Terms You Will Hear at Your Appointment

Dental Crown (Cap)

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that fits over a damaged tooth to restore its shape, strength, and appearance — the most common treatment for a large broken tooth.

Root Canal Treatment (RCT)

Root canal treatment is a procedure that removes infected or inflamed nerve tissue (dental pulp) from inside a broken tooth, seals the canal, and allows the tooth to be restored with a crown.

Composite Bonding

Composite bonding is a tooth-coloured resin material applied and shaped directly onto a chipped tooth surface — the fastest and most affordable fix for minor chips, completed in a single visit.

CBCT Scan

CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography) is a 3D dental X-ray system that reveals root fractures, bone levels, and nerve proximity with accuracy that standard 2D X-rays cannot provide — mandatory at Center for Dental Implants & Esthetics before complex treatment.

Prosthodontist

A prosthodontist is a dental specialist who completes 3 additional years of post-graduate training (MDS in India) focused exclusively on restoring and replacing damaged or missing teeth — the highest qualification for broken tooth treatment.

Vertical Root Fracture

A vertical root fracture is a crack that runs lengthwise through the root of a tooth — the only type of tooth fracture that cannot be saved and requires extraction followed by a dental implant.

Frequently Asked Questions — Broken Tooth Treatment Gurgaon

Real questions from patients who visited us. Direct answers, no padding.

Cost depends on the type of treatment needed:
  • Composite bonding (small chip): ₹1,500 – ₹4,500
  • Porcelain veneer: ₹9,000 – ₹18,000 per tooth
  • Zirconia crown: ₹10,000 – ₹22,000 per tooth
  • Root canal + crown: ₹14,000 – ₹35,000
  • Implant (if tooth not savable): ₹35,000 – ₹80,000
  • The final cost is confirmed after X-ray and examination. No surprises. EMI available.
In most cases, yes:
  • Chips and minor cracks are saved with bonding or a crown
  • Deep breaks reaching the nerve are saved with root canal + crown
  • Teeth broken at the gumline may be saved with a post-core buildup
  • Only vertical root fractures, or roots fractured deep below bone, cannot be saved
  • We use CBCT imaging to assess before recommending any extraction. We do not extract without thorough evaluation.
Do this immediately:
  • Rinse gently with lukewarm water
  • If bleeding — press gauze gently for 5–10 minutes
  • Keep the broken piece in milk or your own saliva (don’t let it dry)
  • Do not apply pain gel or clove oil on exposed nerve — it can damage tissue
  • Avoid eating on that side
  • Call us at 98716 31066 — we assess urgency based on your symptoms
Treatment is done under local anaesthesia:
  • You feel pressure during the procedure, not pain
  • The injection itself causes mild discomfort for a few seconds
  • After anaesthesia wears off — mild soreness for 1–2 days is normal
  • Simple bonding: no pain at all, no anaesthesia needed in most cases
  • Root canal: many patients are surprised at how comfortable it is with proper numbing
  • Pain is the reason you come in. We make sure you leave without it.
Depends on the treatment:
  • Dental bonding: completed in 30–60 minutes, single sitting
  • Crown: first visit 45–60 min (tooth prep + temp crown), second visit 20 min (final crown placed after 5–7 days)
  • Root canal + crown: 2–4 visits spread over 2–3 weeks
  • Implant (if tooth extracted): osseointegration takes 3–4 months before final crown
  • Emergency pain relief is always the first priority on Day 1.
Not always. Root canal is needed only if:
  • The break reached the pulp (nerve tissue inside the tooth)
  • You have throbbing pain, pain with heat, or spontaneous pain
  • There is swelling, pus, or abscess visible near the tooth
  • The tooth is already infected under the crown
  • If the break is in the enamel or dentine only, a crown without RCT is sufficient. We confirm this with an X-ray and pulp vitality test.
Yes, but it is not an emergency if there is truly no pain or sensitivity:
  • The sharp edge can cut your tongue or cheek over time
  • The exposed dentine (even without pain) is more prone to decay
  • Small chips on back teeth can widen under chewing pressure
  • A painless chip on a front tooth affects your smile and confidence
  • See a dentist within 1–2 weeks. A chip caught early is fixed quickly and cheaply.
Crown lasts longer, but bonding is not always the wrong choice:
  • Composite bonding lasts 5–8 years on average before it needs repair or replacement
  • Zirconia crowns last 10–15 years with good care
  • Bonding is ideal for small front-tooth chips — minimal tooth reduction, quick, affordable
  • Crown is correct for larger breaks, all back teeth, and post-RCT teeth
  • The right choice depends on how much of the tooth is damaged. We will tell you which is better for your specific case.
Often yes, depending on where the fracture is:
  • If the root is intact and fracture is above gumline — post-core buildup + new crown works well
  • If fracture is at the gumline — crown lengthening surgery may help expose more tooth structure first
  • If there is a vertical crack through the root — the tooth cannot be saved and extraction is needed
  • We always do CBCT imaging before making this decision. Never agree to extraction without this scan.
